perfectly timed.

It came in just like that. Without warning, without a sign. My phone rang one evening as I rushed around to get ready to meet up with a friend. Entirely puzzled I hesitated- thank goodness for caller id. what had previously been a rushed evening seconds prior to this moment, had quickly become a slow motion scene from a movie. With nervous hands and a shaky voice, I said a very confused “hello?”

On the other end of the phone was a very familiar voice, yet it was still so strange. It felt like time had stopped and knots began to build in my stomach with a million thoughts running through my head- what could this conversation possibly be about- was something wrong, someone hurt? What could have prompted this phone call?

Reconciliation. On the other end of the phone was full closure coming into play. “I had been driving around and praying and felt like I was supposed to call you…and I know this is long overdue, but I need to ask for forgiveness…”

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insightmaking known[c] to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ 10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. (Eph. 1:7-10)

I still get shaky just thinking about it. Thinking about how God knew that this day would come, and that though I had already forgiven that it was still good for me to hear those words and to speak out forgiveness in hopes of releasing freedom for someone else. I can’t stop thinking to myself how timely that conversation was.

You see, God wears a funny watch(actually, He exists outside of time but bear with me). It tells time with so much grace- stopping and speeding up with just the right amount of love. His timing is never early and never too late. Before my very existence He timed this moment to teach and remind me of a very valuable lesson. HE is in control and HE is loving and gracious- to all parties involved!

In those very short minutes, I was reminded that I was cared for and loved. I was reminded that I am not forgotten. Furthermore, I was reminded that only the grace of God inside of me is strong enough to forgive, to desire to see, and love someone who can easily represent hurt, as Christ has first done for me and to me.

I’m so excited that Satan didn’t have a chance in this situation and that Christ redeems.

If I haven’t made my point already, here are 3 take aways you can put in your back pocket-

  1. It’s NEVER too late to ask for forgiveness/seek closure
  2. It IS the will of God to reconcile us to Himself and to unite us to each other (check out Eph.1).
  3. Love always, always, alwayswins. ALWAYS. But you have to lean into God for it because we are entirely incapable of loving to the point of surrender, humility, and boldness it takes to both ask for forgiveness and to forgive.

I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, 18 having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, (Eph. 1:16-18 ESV)
