Ever consider how easy it is to make a choice when you only have to pick between two things as opposed to when your options are endless? I mean ladies, how much grief do we get from guys about choosing a place to eat? Well that choice is probably difficult {for me} because we probably want it all- “do you want to go get Chick-fil-A, tacos, or ice cream” to that the answer is YES. Lol
When I was fifteen years old, I came to a place where I had to choose how I wanted to spend the rest of my life. As overwhelming as that seems to be when you consider all the choices a fifteen year old would have, in all reality I only had two options. At fifteen I was faced with the option to be self-consumed, prideful, and a victim of my life…OR to receive a love which I couldn’t begin to gather enough resources to afford the price on its tag, a love that freed me from self deprivation and destruction.
I’m not sure if anyone else feels like they have to get all deep and contemplative about life around their birthday, but I often do. This year in particular I wanted to know what was my biggest takeaway from last year and it was clear that I learned that life starts when you choose it. I know that sounds so simple, but hear this- you can live today or you can wait for that promotion or new job. You can enjoy community now or you can put everything on pause until your man comes along. You can be diligent with your day-to-day or you can wait for your friend to text you back…y’all, we often choose to be miserable or live in fear because we’re too afraid to make a decision to LIVE.
If you get anything from this post, get this…YOU were and are God’s choice. He chose you from the beginning of the earth before your name could ever even be looked up on google. In his love and in His grace, He gives you the same choice; to choose him back. Do you realize that every moment of everyday we are faced with that choice- choose God or to choose self. To choose self is to stay stagnant, unfulfilled, and dead. Oh but to choose Christ. To choose Christ is to choose life, growth, and purpose.
I don’t know what choices you face today, but I do know that within those choices you you’re face with choosing Christ or Choosing yourself. So choose wisely. Maybe you’re entirely depressed and feel like your future is unclear, or you feel disappointed with where you are in life, perhaps you feel overlooked and forgotten, or you feel like no matter what you do you can’t seem to catch a break…you may even be making plans for when…you get married, get out of debt, lose fifteen pounds, or grow out your hair…etc. whatever and wherever you are today, what if you chose to LIVE today?
Come now, you who say “today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make profit”-Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes…as it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. will be life tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.
James 4:13-16
Honey, believe it or not, like it or not, your life HAS started- in fact from the moment you were conceived the countdown to how many days you would have on earth began.
A man’s days are numbered. You know the number of his months. He cannot live longer than the time you have set. So now look away from him that he may rest, until he has lived the time set for him like a man paid to work. Job 14:5&6
People go about making their plans, but the ternary has the final word. Proverbs 16:1
If any of this resonated with you, you may need to do one of the following:
1. Salvation- maybe church is just a box you check off or maybe you just keep putting off this “God” thing because you think you have time to figure it out. The truth is you don’t. Jesus is coming back and no one knows the day or the hour. Your life here on earth isn’t guaranteed another second. You have the choice of an abundant life in Christ. A life full of hope, even when things don’t work out according to plan, a life full of peace amidst a world of chaos, a life drenched in grace and freedom, a life right at the center of where you should be. Jesus said-
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. John 10:10
Jesus said to him “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me. John 14:6
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.
I’d love nothing more than to tell you about this one choice that will change everything.
2. Surrender- maybe you’ve been trying to do things your way and it’s just not working. You know that God calls you higher but you’re so set on what your life is supposed to look, sound, and smell like. Sis, it’s okay to feel hurt/disappointment, but know that your fears and insecurities aren’t a threat to our God. He welcomes you with a love so full so perfect. He can handle your impossible…would you trust Him with it? If this is you, let’s grab coffee or set up a phone call.
Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance? Romans 2:4
